In Northern and Southern Ireland a Ceilidh pronounced Kay-lee was thought of as visiting or companionship and in Scottish Gaelic it is thought of as a social event with music, dance and story telling. Today when people think of a ceilidh they think of a night of dancing, fun, friends and good music of course!
Ceilidhs are great for parties, weddings and just about any type of social event you can think of! Ceilidhs (similar to a barndance) can be enjoyed by everyone from the very young to the not so young and even those who claim to have two left feet!
For those who find the dancing really isn't for them, they can sit back and watch the fun and laughter of those dancing and enjoy the music played by Alastair Scott Ceilidh Band. We pride ourselves on playing music which is relateable and familiar to everyone from War time classics, singalong Scottish, Irish and American to Disney favourites and Country hits.
No experience is necessary as Ruth our dance caller will expertly guide you through the dances walking you through each dance and will be with you every step of the way ensuring that everyone has an enjoyable time. Part of the fun and laughter of a ceilidh is actually getting mixed up!!
Our ceilidhs are 100% authentic with all the traditional Scottish favourites including The Gay Gordons, Virginia Reel, Dashing White Sergeant, Military Two Step, St. Bernards Waltz etc. and of course Strip the Willow. Along with all the favourite Scottish Ceilidh dances we also like to include some Irish including The Waves of Tory and The Pride of Erin Waltz and some other social/party dances.
We are very proud to have been voted Northern Ireland Wedding Entertainer of the Year 2018 & 2019 by the Northern Ireland Wedding Awards, so if you would like the Alastair Scott Ceilidh Band for your wedding or event, do not hesitate to get in touch with us to check our availability.
